Newark Airport - The Port Authority of NY & NJ
Emergency High Temperature Hot Water Expansion Joint Replacement
Newark, NJ
The Partners of CRC Engineering provided the Port Authority of NY & NJ with a condition survey and assessment of the existing high temperature hot water (HTHW) distribution systems and expansion joints between the terminals at Newark Airport.
Based on the findings of this survey, many of the existing HTHW distribution piping supports had failed and numerous expansion joints were in need of immediate replacement.
The Partners of CRC provided a detailed thermal piping stress analysis and detailed design and construction documents to repair the failed HTHW piping supports and replace the expansion joints.
In order to bring the system online for the 2008/2009 heating season, the design and construction documents were completed on an emergency fast-track schedule and were completed in less than two weeks.
During construction, close coordination with the contractor and the Port Authority was maintained. Response to RFIs and shop drawing review was expedited to meet the abbreviated construction schedule.
As a result of working closely with the contractor and the Port Authority during construction, construction was completed ahead of schedule and the system was brought online in October 2008.
Design Documents: June 2008 to July 2008 (Fast track design)
